It was in October 2011 when a shipping vessel ran aground in the oceans of New Zealand. causing a huge environmental turmoil. Bodies of water surrounding the country of New Zealand has a very diverse number of marine species. Because of the incident the oil spill affected the lives of the species there. Even birds staying in the shores of New Zealand and Australia were greatly affected.
Now another oil spill broke after a shipping cargo split into two. The shipment of the cargo, ran afloat and people were even seen rummaging items that was drifted to the shore. However what is more disturbing is the amount of oil that scattered in the ocean. Although research paper writing say that the incident has lesser effect to the environment than the last incident, it is still considered as a threat to the lives of marine creatures.
I hope the government and also the shipping company involved, Maritime New Zealand, do not be so lenient in solving the issue. They must also be quick so as not to ruin more lives. Environmentalists are saying the sea shores are already affected and birds are starting to die. People are warned to to swim in Waihi beaches.
This two incident must be an eye opener for the government of that country to regulate the shipping and cargo vessels. If they do not, I am sure this kind of scenario is most likely to happen again.
